Fall 2021 – with Olivia Newbrough
This project focused on an analysis and reconstruction of the suburb known as Pullman, IL.
First we did an analysis of the site and what the problems were in our certain suburbia. Next we calculated the amount of different materials all the homes in the site contained. We then “demolished” the suburb and used the materials in new configurations to totally rebuild the suburb with what materials we had obtained.
With the materials we accounted for we aimed for a new way of living for the residents. The plan for the area was to now be a community based area. The bedrooms are sandwiched between programs so that no place in the site is completely separated from the rest. Also there are communal bathrooms, dining rooms, and outdoor spaces. This includes the foundation holes left over from demolished homes becoming congregation spaces. The program becomes centered around them.
