Spring 2022 – with Cessily Crain

Walking through St. Clair Superior you will notice there is an abundance of murals painted on the sides of buildings. Public art amplifies the town’s art and uniqueness, and creates excitement in unused and overlooked spaces. Art explores language and culture creating amenities all can enjoy and reinforcing a sense of shared ownership and belonging. They want a place where they can turn murals and art into a defining feature of the neighborhood, while encouraging and sponsoring co- resident art. Case Elementary is an abandoned school in the heart of St. Clair Superior. For our adaptive reuse proposal we turned the space into an arts and culture center to meet the needs of the community. This will be a place for them not only to see local art in our gallery spaces, but also learn how to make art and music, watch live performances, take art therapy classes, and use the private studio spaces with all the supplies they need to make their own creations. The building’s chosen program revolves around a chandelier made out of canvases that show different pieces of art made into the St. Clair Community.
